Mr. Ahmad Batku was a houseboat owner and businessman and the founder of the much renowned HouseboatChain Mughal Palace Group of Houseboats.Mr. Ahmad Batku philanthropic philosophy was influenced by his mother’s beliefs.He was told by his mother that prayer was the best investment that he could ever make.His two golden rules of being a successful houseboat owner were, “digging for gold” and “espirt de corps”.Ahmad Batku received a number of honorary guests fromeminent institutions like the Universityof Detroit (1953), DePaul University (1954), Barat College (1955), Adelphi College (1957),Sophia University, Tokyo (1963), University of Albuquerque (1975) and the Shell Australia Limited (1988).
In 1973 Mr. Conard Hilton owner of Hilton chain of hotels visited Kashmir and stayed one of the boats of Mr. Ahmad Batku. Mr. Conard mention the experience and the time he spend with Mr. Ahmad Batku and his brothers in his autobiography, “Be My Guest”, Mr. Ahmad Batku in his time get the privilege to serve his hospitality to Kuwait prince Sheikh Al Jassem Elkhars. He impressed with the service, courtesy and friendliness of Mr. Ahmad Batku and invited him to land of gold Kuwait. Mr. Ahmad Batkuin his time became a legend as he traveled from Srinagar to Dubai and from Dubai to Kuwait overland in 1974.
On an advice of Mr. Conard Hilton.
